Tamana

Tamana (玉名) is best known for hot springs and Rengein Tanjyoji Temple. It is small town located in north Kumamoto prefecture in Kyushu island Japan. Tamana is rich in agriculture because of pure water.

Tamana’s hot spring is very popular in Kumamoto due to high quality. It has also some small hot-spring resorts. If you are planning to visit Tamana then, here are all the tips you’ll need to know for your first visit to Tamana.

How to get in: Public Transport

Tamana is very easy to access from Kumamoto Sta. local Bus/Train. JR train runs from Kumamoto Sta. – Tamana Sta. and it takes around 30 min.

Sanko Bus runs on every 20-30 mins from Kumamoto Kotsu Center/Kumamoto Sta. It takes around 75 minutes.

It is a Buddhist temple and the 2nd most recommended place in Tamana. It is very big and has two parts namely – the main temple and the inner temple (known as Okunoin)

Access: Tourist can access it from Tamana Sta. It is around 3 km far from Tamana Sta and accessible by local bus or taxi. Price: 500 Yen

Tamana Onsen Street is very popular. Tamana hot spring water has high quality water with a history of 1300 years old. Tamana is blessed with its natural ground water resource which makes the rice very delicious. The most popular foods are Ramen (Noodles). The ingredients are noodles made from flour, roasted pork slice, miso, garlic chips, ginger, bean sprout, spring onion, leek etc. It is the most satisfying cuisine for noodle-lovers and strong taste-lovers.

In Sweets or Souvenir tourist can buy Lantern-Monaka which is made by red beans paste (Anko) shaped and then wrapped with steamed rice flour. Matsukaze made by rice flour in which beet sugar, egg and poppy seed are mixed. You can enjoy it with a cup of green tea.

Tourists can come to Kumamoto by air, bullet train or express bus. Airport Limousine Buses are available from Aso Kumamoto Airport to Kumamoto downtown.
