There are various ways to visit Kurokawa Onsen from Kyushu but the best as well as nearest is from Kumamoto as you can see in below map.

There is only “Kyushu Odan Bus (九州横断バス)” that connects to Kurokawa. You can ride the bus from Kumamoto Sta. The one-way trip between Kumamoto Sta. to Kurokawa Bus Stand takes around 3 hours (cost 2500 Yen) in the lap of nature. For more details about booking click here

Kurokawa has a variety of pools including an indoor bath, a wooden tub bath, a standing bath & outdoor bath with an amazing view of Mt. Aso and nature. There are many options but some of them I would recommend you personally. 

Ryokan Konoyu

Ikoi Ryokan

It has large outdoor bath with variety of specific baths and indoor bath too. As you can see in the picture, traditional Japanese styled bath with greenery of nature. Even the water contains pH3〜pH6 suitable for all kinds of skin. So, spend here an unforgettable relaxing time with your hubbies. Yamamizuki

Yamamizuki is one of the best riverside baths, which is located in the woods next to a picturesque mountain river. It has variety of outdoor, indoor and private baths. There is some other important information that will help you when you visit for the first time to Kurokawa Onsen.

Onsen Hopping Pass:

If you are going for the same day tour, or, just tired from daily life, then use this pass. This wooden “Onsen-Hopping Pass ( Nyuto Tegata 入湯手形) ” is enough for any 3 different hot-spring from Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan List

Yukata Rental:

Must try “Yukata” and walk around the city. It makes you feel like Japanese and you must capture some unforgettable memories.

Eat:

Kurokawa is a treasure house of foods and specially known for Soba (rice noodle), Beef, Basasi (horse) and Sweets. If you want to have lunch and the hot spring view of Mt. Aso then, you must go to Iromomiji Soba Restaurant (彩もみぢ)

Summary:

If you are in Japan and tired with your daily life, then you must visit Kurokawa Onsen “Most attractive hot springs”. It’s worthy to stay there at-least 1 night @ Ryokan (温泉). But, if you are going for the same day tour for Kurokawa Onsen, or, you are on business tour and have only few hours but don’t know what to do, then I would recommend you to take a Onsen-Hopping Pass @1300 Yen.
